SUMMARY
=====================
Each
artist must use provided
brushes, paint, and
canvas. He or she has
up to 4 hours to complete
a
painting at the designated
painting location
from
12 - 6 p.m. Participants
will be charged a
$10
fee to compete. The
general public is
invited
to
watch the participants
create their paintings
for free.
Paintings
will be numbered and
posted on www.artvsart.com
for online voting.
The top 29 vote-getters
from
Indianapolis, and the
single best vote-getter
from Louisville, Cincinnati,
and Columbus, OH (a
total
of
32 paintings) will
be displayed live when
doors
open at 8 p.m. E.D.T.
on Friday, September
7,
2007 at the Fountain
Square Theater during
the Main Event.
At
the Main Event, each
ticketed attendee can
select three favorite
paintings. Only the
top 16 vote-getters
compete for $2,500 cash
prize. Paintings that
do not make the Finals
are subject to sale
or destruction.
During
the Finals of the Main
Event, two paintings
at a time are randomly
selected from the 16
finalists. Audience
noise is measured with
a decibel meter to
determine each "bout" winner.
Each painting that loses
a bout will face destruction
as determined by a spin
of The Wheel of Death.
A painting can only
be saved from destruction
if the highest bidder
purchases it from a
live auction after each
bout. If the spin of
The Wheel of Death results
in “Instant
Death,” the
painting will be destroyed
on the spot without
an auction. Minimum
bids increase with
each round: Round 1:
$150, Round 2: $250,
Round 3: $350 and Round
4: $450. Artists receive
70% of the amount from
the sale of their paintings.
The
one painting to survive
four bouts will be
crowned the Art vs.
Art 2007 Champion and
will receive a check
for $2500, the Title
Belt, and full bragging
rights. It's a winner-take-all
competition. There
is no second place prize.
OFFICIAL
RULES:
=====================
Primary
Colours/Groove Truck
will provide each registered
participating artist
one 18"x24" canvas
board; a set of brushes;
acrylic paints in red,
blue, yellow, black,
and white; water, pencil, paint
trays, and paper towels,
etc. The day of the
painting competition
is Saturday, August
18, 2007 in Cincinnati,
OH, Louisville, KY,
and Columbus, OH. The Indianapolis
painting competition is August 25, 2007 at the
Harrison Center for
the Arts (1505 N. Delaware
Street, Indianapolis).
Absolutely no personal
materials (brushes,
paints, easels, "live
nude models",
etc.) are permitted.
If such materials are
used, the painting
will be disqualified
from the competition.
Artists are permitted
to bring a sketch and a chair.
Each
artist has a up to four
hours to complete his
or her painting between
12 noon to 6 p.m. E.D.T.
on the day of the painting
competition. Every artist
who receives a canvas
must enter the painting
in the competition.
No bailing out!
The
limit on the number
of registered artists
that may participate
(paint a canvas) is
125 for the Indianapolis
Paint Day, and 64 for Cincinnati, Louisville, and Columbus.
After
an artist has completed
and turned in his or
her painting, Primary
Colours will photograph
the painting and post
it online at www.artvsart.com.
The
29 paintings from Indianapolis with the most
online votes will be
displayed live at the
Fountain Square Theatre
on September 7th. Additionally, the painting with the most online votes from Cincinnati, Louisville and Columbus, OH, will compete at the Main Event. Online
voting occurs from August
20th until 5 p.m. E.D.T.
on September 6th. One vote is permitted
per valid e-mail address.
Paintings
will only be identified
by their assigned number
(no names). Artists
names will not be associated
with the painting. However,
artists are permitted
to publicize their painting
and number to potential
voters.
At
the Main Event, on Friday,
September 7, 2007, at
the Fountain Square
Theatre, every paid/ticketed
admission to the event
will get to vote for
their three favorite
paintings. Participating
artists are granted
free admission to the
Main Event (and will
get to vote). The 16
painting with the most
votes that evening will
compete for the $2,500
Grand Prize. Votes will
be cast and calculated
between 8:00 pm and
9:30 pm.
Art
vs. Art is a single
elimination tournament.
The
judging process or “bouts” pit
two painting head-to-head
for the audience to
judge. Two paintings
(from the top 16) will
be randomly selected
for each “bout.”
The
audience will decide
by applause, noise
and cheers, which of
the two painting will
advance to the next
round base solely on
noise/sound level.
Primary Colours will
provide noisemakers
at the event. A digital
decibel meter will gauge
the sound level (which
measures to the tenth
of a decibel). The
painting that receives
the highest decibel
reading wins the "bout" and
advances to the next
round of judging. The
sound meter readout
will be clearly visible
to the audience and
projected onto a screen.
There
are a total of four
judging rounds. Round
one has 8 “bouts” and
narrows down the field
of 16 paintings to 8.
Round two will narrow
the field from 8 paintings
to 4. Round three has
two “bouts” and
pares down the final
4 paintings to the final
two. Round four is just
one “bout” for
the winner-take-all
championship.
IMPORTANT: “Bout” winners
advance to the next
round of judging. Losing
paintings face the
possibility of destruction.
Losing paintings are
subject to a spin of
The Wheel of Death that
will determine a mode
of destruction (chain
saw, baseball bat, grinder,
chipper-shredder, etc.).
Modes of destruction
may vary, but paintings
will be annihilated.
Once
a mode of destruction
is determined, a painting
can be saved only if
someone from the audience
is willing to purchase
the painting. Sale will
be determined by an
auction, beginning with
a minimum purchase price
for each round: $150
in Round One, $250 in
Round Two, $350 in Round
Three, $450 in Round
Four. All transactions
(cash or credit card)
must take place immediately
following the sale.
Otherwise, the painting
will be destroyed. Cash,
Visa, or MasterCard
are accepted only.
MORE
IMPORTANT: One mode
of destruction on the
Wheel of Death is "Instant
Death." Upon
spinning the Wheel,
if it comes to a stop
on the "Instant
Death" section,
there is no way to
save the painting from
destruction. No auction
will take place, and
the painting is subject
to destruction on the
spot.
**NOTE:
The "Instant
Death" section
also applies in the
final round of judging.
The
winning artist will
receive a check for
$2,500. Their painting
will be auctioned to
the highest bidder.
All
paintings and materials
remain property of Primary
Colours and Groove Truck
Productions until they
are purchased. Artist
will receive 70% of
any sales.
All
rules and regulations
will be fully enforced
and may change at Primary
Colours or Groove Truck's
discretion up until
the day of the event.
Before artists are given
materials, they are
required to sign a form
stating they have read
and understand these
rules.
Artists

(i.e. photographs or
