MAP
How long the is the event (duration)?
Friday, May 9th from 5-11pm and Saturday, May 10th from 5-11pm. Two days only.
How long will the work be displayed?
Just the two days of the event.
I'm still working on the pieces I'd like to show in Allotropy 2008. Do the images I submits for jury selection need to be the exact images that are shown in Allotropy?
No, the images that an artist submits for jury selection do not need to be the pieces that will be shown in Allotropy 2008. They do need to be representational in type and style of the work you will display in Allotropy. So please don't submit images of paintings when you will be showing sculpture.
Is there a limit on the size of files we can submit? (like 1mb or lower?) High resolution images are preferred. 300 dpi JPEGs if possilbe. We'd also accept PDFs, or TIFFs. Please let us know if you have trouble providing any of these common formats.
In regards to the CD of slide-quality images: what format
should they be in?
JPEGs or PDFs or TIFF files would all be fine.
How would the name, title, size and media be included with each image?
We recommend simply naming the images with the title of the piece, but it that's too long of a title, simply number the images (1-10). Then on a separate text document included on the cd/dvd, create a master list, with your name, the title of each piece (plus, size, media, and date). Make sure that the master list makes it obvious which piece is what. if we can't determine which image is which - it may effect your chances of getting into the show.
If you need further clarification or have additional questions please email:
info@primarycolours.org
What do you mean "concise" artist statement?
Please include in your submission packet an artist statement (500 words or less) that describes your work and process of creating it. This is an important component of your submission. Please don't under estimate its value.
If I am selected into Allotropy 2008, what are the specific artist obligations?
Three important obligations for artist to know about participating in Allotropy 2008.
First is a show fee of $40 which is due before any work is hung for Allotropy. Primary Colours is a volunteer run not-for-profit organization. We do not take any money on the sale of artists' work. The artists' show fee will help Primary Colours offset some of the cost promotional costs.
The second obligation is just 4 hours of time.
Primary Colours asks that all artists contribute 4 hours of time toward making Allotropy the best event it can be. Each artist is required to commit just 4 hours toward that goal. This can be done any number of ways, for example you may distribute flyers or poster around the city, or you could help clean-up the space before or after the event. When an artist receives an acceptance letter to Allotropy 2008, we will follow-up with a phone call or email where we'll discuss the available options. We are open to suggestion from artists as to how they can help better the event with their time, as long as its mutually agreed upon.
Third, all participating artists must attend Allotropy 2008 from beginning to end. Allotropy is a great opportunity for artist to sell their work and meet potential buyers. Allotropy inspires a wonderful dialog between supporters and artists. Primary Colours' mission is to foster a dialog, and we do so by creating events that help artist connect to the community.
What is the cost to artist for this event?
$10 submission fee - include with submission packet.
$40 show fee - due when pieces are dropped off.
Participating artists (plus one guest) will get free admission to Allotropy 2008.
Who will hang the work for Allotropy 2008?
Primary Colours will curate and hang the art work for Allotropy 2008. This year's Allotropy will be the nineth installment of what has become a signiture event for Primary Colorus. We have extensive experience curating and hanging quality art exhibitions. Our goal is to present the work in the best light (figuratively and literally). Primary Colours reserves the right to have the final say in what is hung and how. In the end we feel this is a benefit to artist.

What does Allotropy mean?
al·lot·ro·pe n.
The phenomenon of
an element existing
in two or more physical
forms. The existence,
especially in the
solid state, of two
or more crystalline
or molecular structural
forms of an element.
Example: carbon occurs
in multiple forms
such as charcoal,
black lead, or as
a diamond.
Why is Allotropy different than other shows or exhibitions?
Primary
Colours Allotropy is
a large-scale juried
art event that combines
a variety of artistic
mediums with musical
performances. It's
a unique event that
showcases some of
the best contemporary
art the Midwest has
to offer.
To
understand what Allotropy
is, your have to understand
what it is not.
It's
not an art fair.
It's
not a pay-to-play vanity
exhibition.
And it's
not just a party - though it is a good time!
Allotropy is unique in its focus on high caliber contemporary work. It's typically
presented in under-performing
real estate venues that
benefit from improvements
made by participants, as well as the
added exposure to leasing
prospects. Above all,
the art comes first,
selected for it's complexity,
originality and skill
of execution.
Why does Primary Colours do this event?
Its
purpose
is
to create
and
sustain
a
thriving environment
for
the
visual
arts
through
unique
exhibitions,
workshops
and
special
events,
including
Art
vs.
Art,
The
Home for Orphaned
Art, Toys,
and
the
Professional Development
Series
for
artists.
