What is Allotropy?

al·lot·ro·pe n. The phenomenon of an element existing in two or more physical forms. The existence, especially in the solid state, of two or more crystalline or molecular structural forms of an element. Example: carbon occurs in multiple forms such as charcoal, black lead, or as a diamond.

Primary Colours Allotropy is a large-scale juried art event that combines a variety of artistic mediums with musical performances. It's a unique event that showcases some of the best contemporary art the Midwest has to offer.

This upcoming Allotropy will be the ninth installment of what has become a signature event for Primary Colours.

To understand what Allotropy is, your have to understand what it is not.

It's not an art fair.
It's not a pay-to-play vanity exhibition.
And it's not just a party.

Allotropy is unique in its focus on high caliber contemporary work. It's typically presented in under-performing real estate venues that benefit from improvements made by participants, as well as the added exposure to leasing prospects. Above all, the art comes first, selected for it's complexity, originality and skill of execution.

Allotropy was conceived by Primary Colours, a nonprofit arts organization that facilitates interaction between visual artists and the community. Its purpose is to create and sustain a thriving environment for the visual arts through unique exhibitions, workshops and special events, including Art vs. Art, The Home for Orphaned Art, Toys, and the Professional Development Series for artists.
